Identity Theft

We have recently received several crime reports regarding identity thefts and many of the victims are identified as UCI graduate students. In the majority of these cases, victims electronically submitting their federal tax return were notified by the IRS that a tax return had already been filed using their name and Social Security number.

The UC Irvine Police Department, Network and Academic Computing Services (NACS), Administrative Computing Services (AdCom) are all working together with federal authorities to investigate these crimes.
