About Safe Computing

This site was created by Network & Academic Computing Services with input from Administrative Computing Services, the Electronic Security Coordinators and other members of the UCI community.

Our goal was to create a site that was easy to use for most people in most cases. We tried to keep the instructions succinct so we would not overwhelm people with too much information. Keeping personal computers secure is a critical step in keeping the UCI network and its data safe.

Currently we only cover the Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems. Configuring and using Linux is more difficult and may be too complex for the average computer user. We will revisit this topic and add information on Linux as appropriate. The same guidelines for securing your computer apply to Linux as well.
